The question behind the question.

The decode for DMs that look like simple questions but carry anxieties underneath.

Hey! Quick q: why is our cost-per-lead up 15% this week?

The subtext

The question behind the question: leadership is not criticising your campaigns. They are watching burn rate, and a number moving the wrong way without an explanation reads as a number nobody is holding. What is being asked for is reassurance that someone has their hand on it.

The reply

Weekly auction swings are expected within a ±15% variance band while the ad algorithms re-optimise. Our 30-day blended CAC is actually down 4%. Let us review the monthly rolling trend together on Friday.

Any chance you can pull a case study for a 40-person logistics SaaS? Call is at 4.

The subtext

The incentive underneath: this is not a content request, it is a trust problem on a live deal. The rep needs something that makes the buyer feel understood, and a perfect-fit logo is the quickest proxy they can think of. What they actually need is credibility, not a PDF.

The reply

No exact-vertical study, but I can get you two things by 3: the quote from a 35-person ops team on the same workflow, and the onboarding-time metric they care about. Those travel better than a logo match on a first call.

#003 // ProductSasha Sprint

How hard is it to add CSV export? Feels like a small one.

The subtext

What they cannot see: asked in good faith. From outside, export looks like a button. The cost is invisible: it is fine in the browser until someone exports a year of rows, then it needs a background job, a queue, and somewhere to put the file. The real question is when, not whether.

The reply

Small for a few thousand rows, which we can ship this sprint. Beyond that it needs a server-side job so it does not time out, which is a two-sprint piece. Happy to ship the fast version first and see whether the large exports are actually requested.

If we add 2 SDRs now, can we pull some Q4 revenue forward?

The subtext

The physics of it: a fair question from someone carrying the number. The gap is ramp time: a new SDR is not a lever you pull, it is a pipeline that fills later. Saying no without the timeline sounds like resistance; showing the timeline makes the maths the answer.

The reply

Hiring now lands them productive around day 60-90, so the pipeline they create converts in Q1, not Q4. If Q4 is the target, the faster lever is reallocating spend to the two channels already converting. I can model both by Thursday.

Every ping here is a real shape of question, rewritten. The reply is a starting point, not a script — the point is to answer the worry, not just the words.
